Sharing: The Sixtieth Session of UN Commission on the Status of Women

       As part of our reflection phase, I attended the first three days of the Sixtieth session of United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.  Maryknoll Office for Global Concern is one of the stakeholders at the UN (http://maryknollogc.org/) .  There are main events and side events during this ten days session, which are held in different conference room inside and outside UN Headquarters by different stakeholders. 

According to one of the registration staffs, there are 5,000 participants registered for this session.  I got my UN ground pass ID prior to the opening session to avoid long queue and it can be used for the whole session.

3)    Launch of UN Women Policy Brief on Emerging Issues in Gender and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene.

4)   The Gender Pay Gap: What is it, why does it still exist and how do we get rid of it?

5)    Addressing Violence Against Women and Girls to Achieve Sustainable Development

6)    The elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls: why it matters for sustainable development

7)    Outside Our Silos: The Power of Inclusive Engagement to Prevent Violent Extremism.

8)    How can social and technological innovations contribute to achieving gender equality

9)    High-level event on Gender Equality and Global Call to Action on Equal Pay

10) The Role of Women in Small Medium-Size Enterprises (SMEs): How We Can Contribute to Advancing Economies for Human-centered Sustainable Development

11)   An evening event of words, performance and music to call for action to eliminate Female Genital Mutilation, Child Marriage and Son Preference by 2030

I had a chance to attend the English daily Mass at Our Lady of Angels Church (http://www.ourladyofangelsparish.org/),  Church of St. Francis Assisi (http://www.stfrancisnyc.org/), and Indonesian Sunday Mass at Resurrection and Ascension Church (http://www.rachurch.net/) besides visiting Our Lady of Angelus Church (http://www.ola63.org/) and gathering with the Chinese priests who are studying under Maryknoll China Formators Program at Church of Our Saviour (http://churchoursaviour.org/).

I also had a chance to went around New York City to visit World Trade Center (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Trade_Center_(2001%E2%80%93present), St. Paul’s Chapel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Paul%27s_Chapel), Brooklyn Bridge (http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/infrastructure/brooklyn-bridge.shtml), and City Hall Park (http://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/city-hall-park/) .
