Easter Letter 2017

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act. Mahatma Gandhi

Happy Easter! Selamat Hari Raya Paskah! 复活节快乐!
May the Risen Christ continue to bless us with joy and peace!

There was long procession from ground floor to Holy Family Church at second floor of the building on Palm Sunday morning mass.  All the statues were covered with purple cloths after Sunday evening Mass.

The Church was full for the Holy Thursday Mass.  After the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament was reserved at the temporary small chapel.  It was the meeting room, which was cleared up and decorated to reserve the Blessed Sacrament.  Several parishioners, young and old, stayed till the next morning and several other parishioners come and go for adoration in front of the Blessed Sacrament since early Friday morning.

It is a customs in mainland not to eat breakfast for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.  The station of the Cross was held at 3.00 p.m. followed by Liturgy of the Word, veneration of the Cross, and Holy Communion.  The Blessed Sacrament was returned to the temporary small chapel after Holy Communion and the altar was stripped again.  The big Cross from Jerusalem, which was donated from one of the parishioners, was placed in front of the altar after the service.  Several parishioners still come and go for adoration till Saturday afternoon.
Eleven persons, adults and babies, were baptized during Easter Vigil Mass. When the Fr. Lu sprinkled the holy water, the parishioners hold the snacks or fruits or candies up to get the blessing.  Everyone got an Easter egg and every family can get a bottle of holy water as it’s the time to get a new holy water. There were around 800 people attending the Easter vigil Mass.
The parishioners got another Easter egg during Easter Sunday Mass.   After having lunch, three youth and I visited one of the youth in the hospital.
That’s all about my Easter with parishioners of Holy Family Church Shenzhen.  It was a solemn Easter celebration.
Below are short updates about the last four months of 2017.
We continue the Lenten Campaign at Holy Family Church Shenzhen by inviting the parishioners to donate their Lent saving money in a plastic folder for our charity works.
I attended a sacrament of matrimony in Chaonan  (http://anastasialindawatimm.blogspot.com/2017/01/sharing-2017-trip-to-chaonan.html) and also went to Guangzhou Cathedral with Fr. Sharing: On Line Bookstore

Several parishioners have online store by posting the pictures of their products on their online profile wall.  This gave me an idea to upload the free book “人生on God’s Line” on my online profile wall and then led me to open an online bookstore.
Here are several available books: 基督宗教圣诞前的耶稣 (Jesus Before Christianity by Albert Nolan, OP);现代人耶稣:一个彻底自由的灵修 (Jesus Today by Albert Nolan, OP) 感恩圣事:礼仪与神学 (Eucharist: Liturgy and Theology) 信与传 (Faith and Mission) 同性恋于天主教会 (Homosexuality and Catholic Church) 在加里肋亚湖上说情爱 (Love Story at Sea of Galilee); 性,爱与我 :正确的抉择 (Sex, Love and I),等等 and the favorite book is天主教婚姻甜蜜的秘决 (1st Catholic Guide for Lifelong Marriage).

Sharing: 2017 Trip to Guangzhou

Fr. Lu, several parishioners, three catechumens and I visited Guangzhou Cathedral on May 1, 2017.  Sr. Chen, who accompanied me during my stay in Our Lady of Lourdes Church - Shamian in 2012, gave an introduction about the Cathedral and the compound.  She is in charge of RCIA in Cathedral.  There are seven classes both in Cantonese and Putonghua for almost 100 catechumens.
I continued my stay in Guangzhou by visiting several priests, sisters, former parishioners of Holy Family Church Shenzhen, Indonesian Catholics, a staff of Huiling and parishioners including visiting Our Lady of Lourdes Church - Shamian, St. Francis Xavier’s Church – Dong Shan Kou and attending Sunday Mass at one of the Chapels.

It’s also a time to give away the book “人生on God’s Line,” listen to their stories and pray with the parishioners.
